Cleveland Cavaliers ratings

Rather than releasing a Player Edit Guide on GameFAQs, I've decided to release my detailed ratings on the blog.

I'll be releasing the ratings for a different team every day. A 360 file with my edits will likely be available within 2-3 weeks, and this will allow PS3 editors to add my ratings to their files.

Non-Clutch Overall 96 (down from 97)

Outlook: The most dominant SF in the game today, by far. His only "weakness" is his average outside shooting, but that could very well change next to a post player like Shaq. Any improvement in his shooting would make LeBron quite possibly even more offensively dominating than Michael Jordan.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shaquille O’Neal (C)

Non-Clutch Overall 86 (down from 88)

Outlook: Still among the best centers in the game despite his advanced age, thanks to his inside scoring presence and high basketball IQ. He will struggle mightily against perimeter oriented centers and uptempo lineups, in which case we should see Varejao filling in.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Zydrunas Ilgauskas (C)
Overall 86 (up from 84)

Outlook: The Cavaliers decided to upgrade at center despite already having a pretty good one in Z, as they could not go into next season without some kind of answer for Dwight Howard. He will be the best backup center in the league by far, and his shooting ability makes for a nice alternative to the Big Diesel.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maurice Williams (PG)
Overall 85
Close 85
Med 87 (up from 85)
3pt 89 (up from 87)
FT 94

Off Dribble 87
In Traffic 79
Quickness 95
Hustle 84

Ball Defense 81
Standing Dunk 50

Outlook: An excellent mid-range and 3pt shooter. Named an all-star in 2009 and could contend for a spot on the team again (though he would never have a snowball's chance in the stacked west). Can be posted up by bigger PGs; of course, with Andre Miller moving out west (to join Billups, Kidd, Baron, and Deron), there won't be too many games where this will be exposed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Delonte West (SG/PG)
Overall 84 (down from 85)

Hustle 88
Hands 92
Ball Defense 78
Standing Dunk 50

Outlook: A similar player to Williams, with size that makes him passable at SG. Not quite the shooter/playmaker, but a better defensive player by far.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Anthony Parker (SG)
Overall 81 (up from 79)
Close 78

In Traffic 70
Quickness 85
Hustle 78
Hands 81
Ball Defense 78 (up from 72)
Standing Dunk 50

Outlook: As with Williams/West, Parker is similar to the aforementioned player but is bigger and a more prototypical SG. He is a bit stretched trying to run point though, as he showed in Toronto last season. He may start if the Cavs prefer West's versatility off the bench.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Anderson Varejao (PF/C)
Overall 80 (up from 79)
Close 85 (up from 78)
Med 68
3pt 50

Strength 73
Vertical 72
Off Dribble 63
In Traffic 80
Quickness 67
Hustle 97
Hands 60
Ball Defense 70
Standing Dunk 75

Outlook: Perhaps the most important player to Cleveland's chances after LeBron, despite being only their 7th highest rated player. His defense and hustle are invaluable at PF/C as the rest of the bigs are severely lacking in the quickness department. If he can develop a reliable mid-range jumper next to Shaq, it would do wonders for his game, and the team, as he is currently the only starter who could be considered below average.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Leon Powe (PF)
Overall 79 (up from 76)
Close 78 (down from 88)

Strength 88
Vertical 68
Off Dribble 67
In Traffic 69
Quickness 68
Hustle 92
Hands 82
Ball Defense 68
Standing Dunk 75

Outlook: Powe is going to miss most of the season recovering from his torn ACL, and there's no telling how effective he'll be when he comes back. If it's anything like he was before the injury, it could put the Cavs over the top.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jamario Moon (SF/PF)
Overall 77 (down from 78)

Off Dribble 63
In Traffic 69 (up from 59)
Quickness 81
Hustle 81
Hands 75
Ball Defense 85
Standing Dunk 75

Outlook: Great defensive player with athleticism that rivals LeBron's. He allows LeBron to move to PF without the team losing anything defensively. He is Trevor Ariza without the hype and for half the price.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

J.J. Hickson (PF/C)
Overall 74 (up from 72)

In Traffic 68
Quickness 65

Ball Defense 68
Standing Dunk 75

Outlook: Bigman probably takes a backseat this year, as he operates in mostly the same space as Shaq. Should be a nice compliment to Ilgauskas when Varejao is resting or in foul trouble, but otherwise shouldn't see much time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Daniel Gibson (PG/SG)
Overall 73
Close 67 (down from 70)

Off Dribble 84
In Traffic 62
Quickness 93

Ball Defense 73
Standing Dunk 50

Outlook: A great shooter coming off a poor season. Can he find magic in a bottle as Damon Jones did with Shaq in Miami? Probably not, as Cleveland is stacked with shooters, and he doesn't bring anything else to the table.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rob Kurz (PF/C)

Outlook: Was cut multiple times last season, and will certainly see the same fate again. If he plays a single meaningful minute, it means the season took a turn for disasterous.
