NBA 2K10 Player Ratings

Ranking the players by position will allow us to nitpick them all the better. I have some huge beefs with... pretty much the entire list. Unfortunately, I need to be at work in 25 minutes and don't have the time to go into detail. I have some interesting analysis I've derived simply from looking at the overall ratings...

Just know that while the formula and scale may have changed, this is still the same 2K Sports making the same mistakes they've been making the entire decade. At least their consistency makes things easier to fix.

Also note that not every player is listed, operationsports only showed the top 12 on each team, didn't show FAs, and I have yet to look through their D-League rosters filtering out the real NBA players (think I saw Chris Mihm and Linton Johnson).

There is too much seperation between the top two or 3 at each position and the rest of them.

I see they took injury into account for some players (TMAC, Brand), but how can they justiy Arenas at an 84? What would his rating have been if healthy last year...1000???

Rashidi said...

2K didn't really take the injuries into account though. 2K just doesn't know their players. For example, Elton Brand is an "F" in perimeter shooting, worse than Jason Smith. We all know Brand has a solid mid-range shot, and that's not an attribute that would have been lowered due to his injury.

Further, Brand has the same rating as LaMarcus Aldridge and Josh Smith. Tough to argue that he was penalized for injury.

@ JakeN1985 : Actually hat is more than fine. Those guys are leaps and bounds ahead of the pack.

copying off another comment on Rondo that applies here as well :

Yes, the OVRL should reflect the quality of the player but it also simply is a formula that is the sum of all parts.

So lowering ratings for the sake of lowering the OVRL rating imo is not the way to go about sports game ratings anymore now that siganture play and tendencies are onvolved, especially with clear cut starters (where there´s no position battle inside the team and a lower OVRL rating would ensure that the better player IRL would start)

In a video game setting one player might have more weak spots than another (and thus a low OVRL rating) yet still produce better and be harder to play against than a player with a higher OVRL.

That is what i love about games with no overall rating, like Football Manager (si games) where the AI is smart enough to pick players based on individual attributes rather than an overall rating.

And no, i don´t think you are just judging by the OVRL, not just because of the Brand comment on his midrange game but because you´ve proven so.

But still, i think you are also getting a little bit too caught up in the OVRL in some instances.

Greetings, Mario

Dirk Nowitzki just an 83 and worse than Boozer? Come on 2K, that is a bad joke...

Emeka Okafor is better than West who made the allstar team, and Lamarcus?

How is Rajon Rondo ahead of Paul Pierce? are these ratings real?

Gabe said...

I was asking myself the same question, Im pretty sure Pierce is still better than rondo, like wtf

wheres allen iversoN?

A-Scott said...

How are you going to put Rashard Lewis as a worse rating than more than 10 players that he beat to the all star team last year? Rondo is too high, and JJ Redick played great in the post season!! Why is he the worst gaurd when he played just as well as Ray Allen?

These ratings are very faulty...

these ratings are crappppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

to whoever said that jj redick played just as well as ray allen in the playoffs, that is a complete joke..im pretty sure jj didnt put up 51 pts..? im pretty sure jj never carried his team throughout the playoffs..ray allen was the best player for the celtics in the playoffs, maybe people would realize that if paul pierce actually passed him the ball..how is ray only an 80?

NBA Live 10 Is Way Better Than This Crap. NBA 2K Series Is Going To Die As NBA Live Series Will Rise.

where's ALLEN IVERSON?
and these rating are SHIT
lebron shud be 98
KG is just 88
not even above 90?
rondo and mo williams are underrated
steve nash is one of d best PGs but how come his rating is so low?

Anonymous said...

man, this is BAD! Tmac in the seventies?! Lebron ratings should be about 90(not a great shooter or defender) and D-Will should be the same as CP3

No Lester Hudson

Anonymous said...

wtf are they kidding me ??? Ray allen only 80? Hes one of the best shooting guards in the game today , wtf 2k!! And tmac 77 ?and kg should be higher as well

Anonymous said...

rondo is too low? are you retarded?

he is one of the highest rated players in the game. He doesn't even have a jump shot. His J is more broke than Lebron's.

Anonymous said...

How the fuck is Steve Nash an 80 overall?

I'm pretty sure that on last years Suns team, Shaq (81) was not better than Steve Nash. AND Stephen Jack-happy-son is not better than the 2 time MVP

Other Fuck-ups:

Harden(an unproven rookie with bust written all over him) is the same overall as Turkoglu -->76

Just cause dunleavy is hurt don't make him a 65

Jason Thompson is 66 OVR

Dirk should be 93+, not 83

Hawes is 65
Rondo is the 10th best player, whereas granger is the 18th

wtf is wrong with 2k10 thsi year? last year i bought nba live but all my friends said it wasn't as good as 2k9! I find that so hard to believe. Where is Allen iverson? he is one of the best point guards still and he is gonna show that wid philly. how is paul that low he shoulds be like a 94 or something. koby and lebron should be 98. tmac no comment never mind big comment wtf why is he in da 70's thats bull crap. I have only had one 2k game but that gonna be the last. nba live win this year so fu** all 2k people who told me it was gonna be the best this year!

Anonymous said...

wtf

Unknown said...

These ratings are horrible literally everybody is in the 70's they should bump up a lot of the player's ratings

Where the Fuck is Allen Iverson
Why is Garnett under 90?
The only reason i get this game is because of the achievements are easy. I don't understand why people say 2K is better it SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I hope i can change the ratings on some of these players.

Anonymous said...

melo should be in the 90's without a doubt and how cn they rate durant, one of the most talented scores int he league, lower than butler these ratings are trash

Enrique Pascual Colon said...

i think there are too much different between players, also there are players that have the rating so low that U think if they are benchs player or water boys.

Anonymous said...

lol it hink this shit is really funny. lol lebron only 96 worse then kobe? who won the mvp again i dont remember o ya know i do lebron did i think they both should be 97 or higher but lebron should be higher. plus rajon rondo is not that good cp3 should be 96 if not 97 i believe that kevin durant should be low 90s so should nowitzki. shaquille is a bust he should be hi 70s not low 80s arenas should be hi 80s or low 90s i belive he is the second best point guard
but i quess if they are rating everyone low itll even out? wrong thats why im gonna buy live not 2k

Anonymous said...

lol melo should be alot higher elton brand does suck so rashidi shut ur mouth jake n i tihkn ur right on
tmac is hurt and i dont think hell even play this season if he does he will be coming of the bench when was the last time he has even played in a real game
rip hamilton should be higher

JamesR said...

It sounds like most of you guys haven't even played this game. It is by far the best basketball game of all-time. I was always an NBA Live fan until I experienced this.

And the player ratings are not that bad. The game is relatively harsh on the ratings, but they are harsh to every player. Plus, the players ratings are constantly being updated if you hook the xbox up online. the only issues i have are that stephen jackson and mcgrady are so overrated. also, jameer nelson and paul pierce are better at 3's than ray allen and peja stojakovich. overall, ratings are good though

and the overall ratings don't reflect how good each player is at their particular position. that's why dwight howard is only 89, rather than 99.

you guys all need to just play the game and stop focusing on these numbers. i guarantee this will be the best NBA game you've ever played since classics like Jam and Hangtime

Anonymous said...

yeah the ratings sucks but the only way nba live is going to surpass 2k is if they get their own superstar mode like nba 2k10s my player mode.

Anonymous said...

Melo and Durant should be higher. Kobe is better than lebron so just get over that rating CP3 is good where hes at Rondo is way too high. When was the last time TMAC played at all star level and if he does he would just get hurt anyway.

JokersWild said...

You people fail to understand what the overall ratings mean. The score is a combination of EVERYTHING about the player. For example Rajon ranks about the same as Pierce, why? Because Rajon can steal, rebound, and pass very well and can sometimes score. Pierce's game is NOT as all around but he is a much better scorer. That's why the scores are that way.

Anonymous said...

wtf!!! steve nash 80.he is the greatest pg in the game.pass rating would have to be 99 to make it up from that.

Anonymous said...

This is bull man, the game is cool to play ( i only have the demo atm, lol) but the stats look wack,

i like the celtics and rondo is the man, he put up 30 points the other night with 15 assists, he should be higher, and the rest of the starting 5 should be to, garnett 88 is ight but hes the man, pual is just way better than 84, and dont get me started on perkins, low 70's whats up wit that. at least a low 80's
calliber player, and allen is better to, not fair for the celtics,

T-mac can play better than wateva he is,

Lebron is the king, make him atleast better than kobe, i think 99,

put up howard, hes the man, he can bound score (but cannot hit anny free throws wit him)

this game is cool tho and in my opinion better the live, i used to roll live becouse of mainly 2k's piss poor graphics but its worth it,

BOSTON BIG 4 BABY!

Anonymous said...

it's funny how people say lebron's better than kobe when he can't shoot as well or isn't as good as a defender, the only things that lebron has on kobe is athleticism and dunking.

Anonymous said...

Shaq is the third best Center in the league? I'm sorry... Are we rating them by there personalities? ...and Have you seen Nash play recently? Whoever rated the players for 2k10...needs to be shot..then hung...then shot again. -TrueFan

Anonymous said...

to be completely honest the ratings on this game might not be accurate but what most ppl dont realize about these ratings is that not all the ratings on a player are equal for example if you have a high offensive or defensive awareness it makes your player way higher rated than if just your athletic qualities are high, it can boost a players rating a lot. thats why so many of these overall ratings are flawed. but if you actually play with the players some arent nearly as bad or as good as the overall rating says. plus i still think any 2k game is wayyyyy better than any live game, the gameplay in 2k is 10 times better, the dunks are actually cool unlike live, lives dunks and shots just look retarded! pretty much everything about the gameplay is more realistic and more fun in 2k.

Anonymous said...

All the anonymous people are messing this up, some called lebron's jumpshot bad, r u kidding me?
I am a lakers fan and I still gibve credit to leBron's jumpshot but kobe's is still good, lebron 96? WTF?

Anonymous said...

to all those who say Rondo is overrated. look at what he's done in his career. He is THE leader and without him Boston dosent win. they even say it. he is a double double thread every night and has a decenet outside shot. if anything the only I see wrong in the game is how brandon roy is a little underrated. his clutch rating is lower then it should be.

Anonymous said...

you guys are all so stupid. play the damn game and realize how good a game it is. Ratings are all good in this game depending on how you use them for example they lowered the minimum stat from 50 to 25 thats why dwight howard is so low. he has 25 threes and like 25 off hand dribbling. if you use the players the way they play there game in real life it is perfect. for example i like to play as J.R Smith he is rated 72 but will has 99 dunking and 95 three pointers so i play to his advantages and he smashed it. so stop complaining because they got it right!

Admininstrator said...

these ratings suck. Rnaldo Balkman of the nuggets better than danilo gallarani? Peja Stoajckivic? Kyle Korver? wow these are terrible i hope mlb2k10 has better ratings along with nba 2k11

Anonymous said...

umm. the averages are ridiculous. drik nowitzki 83. hes one of the leagues primeir players like wth. is that a joke. people like boozer and devin harris are higher. and nash at 80. wow. thats all i can say.

Anonymous said...

i dont know, i agree with some of this stuff. a lot of the overall deals with defense though. nash can score all game long, when it comes to defense he is porous. . . everything goes through him. i can understand these ratings from an overall perspective taking into account offense vs defense equally. there are some details that 2k failed at, like the elton brand thing, but overall, after playing the game too, they got a lot right. so many premier players play offense very well, when it comes to defense, their hindrances are over looked because of their offense.

Anonymous said...

omg.. if u don't like the game don't play it... Go play live I will even buy you NBA live if u want.. lebron and d Wade is the best in the game.. Kobe is good but he gets tired quickly..

gabby teodoro said...

2K10 should watch the real game to rate the players.

tdodgers34 said...

wow there is no way that lebron is worse than kobe!okay look kobe isnt that good at defense and look at lebron he gets alot of blcok shots. Also kobe is just a scorer and lebron gets rebounds and assists! wow and hasheem thabeet should be about 72 overall not 57!

Anonymous said...

WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Paul Pierce is only 84 while Rajon Rondo is 87??

What is this???

-.-'

Anonymous said...

Whoever said: "NBA Live 10 Is Way Better Than This Crap. NBA 2K Series Is Going To Die As NBA Live Series Will Rise." apparently hasn't played too many basketball video games lately. NBA 2k10 although has odd ratings has better gameplay and graphics than NBA Live and has for years. I don't see this changing as NBA Lives gameplay is about caught up with NBA 2k8

Anonymous said...

2k just f's up a ton. Try playing my player on the magic. Sit back and watch while Dwight Howard takes the 3 whenever he has an open look. And air-balls most of them.

imo lebron is better than kobe
kobe is too high
chris paul should be 100 :P
No A.I Wtf
Peja is pretty low
West should be higher than okafor considering he made allstar

Maybe nerds should watch basketball before they start giving them ratings hahaha. But for real Dirk that low??? Ruins the whole game for me.

OMG Vince Carter is rated 81, and T-Mac 77 :S Tracy McGrady is way better than Carter. This is pure sh*t... NBA Live is way better than 2K enterainment... And ffs, NOWITZKI ? He should be 93 or higher, not 84 :S ... Steve Nash (80) is better than Williams, he should be 89 -.- FFS u SUCK !

People people people....Allen Iverson is in the "free agents pool" Buy the game, put AI on a team, change the ratings to your own judgement and quit complaining. The players can be edited to fit ur own happiness lol

nba 2k10 is a great game and these player ratings are ok but i have two complaints

1. some specific are either severely overrated (devin harris) or underrated (dirk nowitzki)

2. some of these rankings need to be bumped up; too many players in the 70s need to be in the 80s and the same for the 80s to 90s

JJ Redick that low? Really?

He is probably the Magic's most consistent Bench Player. heck, he was more effective than Carter in the post season.

seems like I'm going to have some editing to do on the ratings when I get the game.

Rate my team. I started out an Association with the Thunder.

Etan Thomas
Jeff Green
Kevin Durant
James Harden
Russell Westbrook

Nenad Krstic
Nick Collison
DJ White
Thabo Sefolosha
Eric Maynor

Kyle Weaver
Kevin Ollie
BJ Mullens

I started out by signing Allen Iverson and cutting Kevin Ollie and BJ Mullens.
Traded Etan Thomas & 2 1st Rd Picks for LaMarcus Aldridge.
Traded Allen Iverson for Ray Allen.
Traded Nenad Krstic for Javale McGee.
Traded Nick Collison & 2nd Rd Pick for Anthony Randolph.
Traded DJ White for Jordan Hill.
Traded Thabo Sefolosha for Nick Young.
Traded Eric Maynor for Jrue Holiday.
Traded Kyle Weaver for DeAndre Jordan.

In the end my team ended up looking like this:

LaMarcus Aldridge
Jeff Green
Kevin Durant
Ray Allen
Russell Westbrook

Javale McGee
Jordan Hill
Anthony Randolph
James Harden
Jrue Holiday

Nick Young
DeAndre Jordan

these Ratings are pretty bad. rondo is good, but definetly not as good as Allen or pierce,

Did some one really write on here that LeBron was a poor defender??

Where you dropped on your head as a child??

Do you even watch NBA??

ppl should take this into account: some players are like masters of few and some players are like jacks of all trades. if one player has more skills, even if they are not really good in most of them, they will still have a higher ovrl. take nowitzki for example, I am a combo guard for the mavericks in my player mode and whenever I pass him the ball at the right time and place he just becomes unstoppable. he once dropped 40 in a playoff game. yeah he may not be a great defender and that makes his ovrl rating lower than most pf's but who cares when he can more than make up for that by scoring and rebounding? to sum it all up not because you use a higher ovrl player means that hell dominate in matchups. its all about knowing the player and using him to his full potential.

There are bad ratings on this for instance shaq bein gbetter than nash and carmelo being that low. In my opinion there are only 5 max ppl to build a team around thats kobe, lebron, durant, wade, carmelo. I would say dirk is a close 6th place but these should be the highest rated players. The problem is guys like dirk he can score with any of these guys but to be 7 foot and only grab 7 rebounds. After scoring dirk has nothing else. therefore he deserves a poor rating and i guess thats why rondo has a high rating because the only thing missing from him is the jumpshot but he is a scorer because not many people can score aroung the rim like him. He has a nact for getting the ball on the back board around good defenders. His all around game is better than dirks. I do disagree with anthony's rating and do believe it should be higher but these ratings are also based on performances in the playoffs and melo really needs to atleast make it to the finals to be considered an elite or he will always be second tier at least in their eye sights. not mine though arguably i think he is the best scorer in the league and he is getting good and defense averaging 8 rebounds at the small forward position
