NBA 2K14 Top 50 Player Ratings (Real 2K Insider vs 2K Sports)

Ten days into owning NBA 2K14, I'm ready to release my Top 50 NBA Player Ratings and see how the list compares with 2K Sports.

For the most part, I use all the scales and advanced statistics that 2K Sports uses to calculate their player attributes, but have always been far more consistent with their implementation.  I've always considered my ratings to be what 2K's would look like if they were willing to put in the work.  This is what I accomplished in a little more than a week's time.

Looking at the Overall ratings, how would you say I did?
Which players should be higher/lower on either list?

Monta Ellis
Inside Scoring: C+
Outside Scoring: B
Perimeter Defense: A
Post Defense: C-
Ball Handling: A-

Rebounding: D
Basketball IQ: A
Athleticism: B+

Average Starting SG (bear in mind I have like 25 more starting SGs to edit)
Inside Scoring: C+
Outside Scoring: B+
Perimeter Defense: B+
Post Defense: D+
Ball Handling: A-
Rebounding: D
Basketball IQ: B
Athleticism: B+

Monta's defense has quietly become vastly underrated. His steal rate was 12th in the NBA (finished 4th per game), and he played 3,000 minutes for a team that finished 12th defensively. He plays out of position at SG but doesn't get abused in the post, and shines when he gets to guard opposing PGs. His jumpshot was garbage last season but the way Milwaukee used him was definitely a factor.

He'll have a bounce back year with Dallas. Calderon & Dirk are far better fits for his playstyle than Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova.

thanks for replying
im no expert
and i dont have league pass so i didnt see alot of monta ellis until the playoffs
but every thing seems on point except the perimiter defense

anything above around 81 for OBD is kinda high
he can hold is own on defense but he isnt exactly a defensive stopper on defense
getting steals and on ball defense are two different things
i mean from what ive seen of him on defense
he plays the pick and roll pretty well and can get around screens
and hes there but he isnt really a stopper
hes no avery bradley or patrick beverly

Two things stand out to me for Monta, his perimeter D isn't quite that good, B+ at best I think. Steals and good defense aren't always the same thing (e.g. Bruce Bowen).

The other thing is Basketball IQ, Monta is notorious for taking bad shots and overshooting, one of the worst in todays NBA. No way he should have higher than a B for BBIQ.

he gets a decent amount of assists for a shot jacking shooting guard

hey rashidi how did you compute the drives the lane/spots up and attacks the basket/pulls up tendencies? in default lebron mostly pulls up for jumpshots and I want to make him drive 70% of the time when he has the ball. thanks man!

I like a lot of your differences and thanks for putting in the time but an 89 for Blake Griffin is RIDICULOUS he is the most one dimensional overrated player in my 30 years on the planet. He can't shoot from more than 3 ft away and isn't good at ANYTHING that...I don't know....an ACTUAL basketball should be good at. He is a freak spring board athlete that couldn't even legitimately win the dunk contest...(shouldn't have even got passed the first round) AND they gave him the rookie awards IN HIS 2ND YEAR IN THE LEAGUE just so morons would still buy his jersey. Please fix this I would love to play with your rosters but I don't know enough about how to fix players so they play like they should and you seem to. Blake griffin is an extremely poor mans antonio mcdyess.....I would like the roster to convey that. Thanks for all of your hard work

Blake Griffin mid-range

2014: 111-285 (39%)
2013: 122-348 (35%)
2012: 108-299 (36%)
2011: 125-369 (34%)

It's obvious that Blake's jump shot continues to improve and that this is his best season yet.

Blake Griffin postups
2014: 0.96 PPP (30% offense), 28th
2013: 0.88 PPP (35% offense), 42nd
2012: 0.83 PPP (33% offense), 71st
2011: 0.90 PPP (29% offense), 67th

It is likewise obvious that Blake has improved his post play, and he's pretty effective at it now.

One-dimensional dunkers don't score 24 points per game.

McDyess
Age 21: 15.6 PER
Age 22: 15.5 PER
Age 23: 20.3 PER
Age 24: 21.7 PER

Griffin
Age 21: 21.9 PER
Age 22: 23.4 PER
Age 23: 22.4 PER
Age 24: 23.8 PER

Blake has been better than McDyess since day one.

I like McDyess but he wasn't even an All-Star until he was 26 (right before he blew out his knees). Blake would still be getting selected by the coaches even if the fans weren't voting him in.
